While studying art history and working at MoMA, The Met and Sotheby's; Stoland was taking classes at the Art Student's League on the side. She soon realized her real passion was for making art. She returned to pursue a Master's degree at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she began her intensive study of art, craft and the body. Using her own experiences as a woman and the sibling of a severely head injured loved one, she has examined our society's often uncomfortable relationship with ability, fertility and death through a plethora of media including cast metal, blown and cast glass, photography, watercolor, printmaking and film.
Stoland currently lives in Venice Beach, CA with her husband and three children.
